Online Gaming – A Dangerous TrendOnline Gaming – A Dangerous Trend

Online gaming is an increasingly popular pastime enjoyed by millions of people throughout the world. Online gaming involves a group of people who play games together either through dedicated servers, which are free to use, or through a multiplayer online gaming service, which gives players access to each other through a computer network. An online game is usually a video game which is either largely or partially played via the Internet or some other computer network. The most well-known online games, like World of Warcraft and EverQuest, have millions of users. Other popular games include the Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG) World of Warcraft, which has over ten million members; and the massively multiplayer online RPG (MMORPG) EverQuest, which has over twenty million members.

The popularity of online gaming is due to many factors, including the fact that it can be played for free and is available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. It is also relatively easy to get into, requiring only a high-speed Internet connection, a Windows-based PC, a modem, and an operating system such as Windows 2021, XP, or Vista. Most online games do not require any type of monthly fees or subscriptions. Some require membership fees in order to gain access to game content or to play against other players; others require players to pay per match, although these fees are becoming less common with each increasing popularity of online gaming.

These websites and programs to help parents monitor and report inactivity, inappropriate language, and excessive gaming.
